In an unprecedented move for South Africa, FlySafair is disrupting the market with the launch of OTA flight sales of competing airlines on www.flysafair.co.za. Both airlines and agents, hearing that these third-party flight sales are taking place without any interline agreements in place, say this has never been done before. “This is just the beginning,” says FlySafair, which aims to launch more flights and more routes on its website soon.

While inbound travel to South Africa has yet to recover, domestic tourism is making a strong comeback, according to Gerriline Fouché, head of marketing at local accommodation booking website, LekkeSlaap.co.za. “February, March, and April this year have proven to be exceptional booking months, with volumes surpassing the same period in 2019. In contrast to booking volumes that plummeted to zero in March 2020, current spikes in booking volumes clearly indicate that domestic travel has staged a remarkable recovery,” Gerriline says.
FlySafair, Tripco partner to launch all-in-one travel package solutions
FlySafair has partnered with local travel technology company Tripco to launch FlySafair Holidays, its own travel package holiday solution. Along with flights, passengers will now be able to book a stay from a selection of handpicked places around South Africa. “As our whole industry works together toward recovery, we wanted to expand our offering to customers giving them the option to book all the elements of a local getaway in one place,” says Kirby Gordon, chief marketing officer at FlySafair.

Social media specialist agency, HaveYouHeard has analysed 200 brands' performance on Facebook, and compared that to a similar study the agency conducted at the end of 2014... It examined the total number of interactions the page has and divided them by the number of fans per page, to calculate an Interaction Engagement Score. This facilitates comparisons between brands that have different size communities. South Africa's top performing brand on Facebook is Jameson Irish Whiskey, with a total Interaction Engagement Score of 159%. It is followed by credit card Visa in second position (124%) while retail chain Edgars ranks third (111%).
